"Piper" Pews Sneak Peak Part 1

It feels like Christmas around here! The radio station is set on Christmas tunes when we are running errands out and about, the tree is up, the house is lit with green and red classic lights and  we have already started watching our favorite Christmas movies. The Wights love Christmas. We love the magical feeling, the joy, and the hope that this time of year and reflection brings our family. Jagger, our "almost 4-year old" is quite excited and insists on yelling at every "Mall Santa" that he wants Optimus Prime (smack head!).

Well, we have an update on the "Piper" antique church pews! Our "elves" are hard at work and have one of the pews cut down from the 15 foot original size down to the new 8-foot custom size. I'm very excited about these, which you can obviously tell. The next steps are my favorite - the transformation that happens with sanding and stain and finish makes a world of difference and makes a piece from neat to WOW! Stay tuned for the reveal! For now, here is the teaser of them in progress!

Also, we have had some questions about cushions for the pews. Yes, we salvaged the old cushions are are going to reupholster them into a neutral finish. This is a great option to add on to your rental order, especially if you have elderly folks sitting in these for your ceremony.

Ira + Lucy On Rocky Mountain Bride

I will admit that I was that girl, the one who started planning her wedding when she was six years old. I dreamt of the man I would marry; what he would look like, his voice, and the things he would say to me standing up in front of our friends and family. What I didn’t realize at six years old, is that love surprises us when we least expect it and there’s actually no way to dream up or prepare for just how amazing it is going to be someday. I realized early on in my planning that what I was drawn to most were the little things, which is why I hired a designer. I wanted someone who understood the importance of every little detail and who would make all the little elements come together into a complimentary big picture. For the nonbelievers out there, I promise you actually can make a boho-chic, rustic, country barn wedding work! It just takes one amazing designer! - Bride, Brie

THE FIRST LOOK

The smoke from nearby wildfires threw our plans for a loop! Bride, Brie had planned for a surprise grand exit at the end of the night for Kasey with a helicopter flight leaving their reception, but with the smoke as bad as it was, early in the afternoon we received a call that it was a no go.... Here is one reason we love Brie so much, this bride was bummed, but determined and was willing to go with the flow and adjust plans as needed. Instead, we bumped up the schedule for photos and decor and had the helicopter come for the "First Look". The pilot was ok with that option since it would be lighter during the day hours and not be a safety issue. Welcome to make'n it work! Brie was whisked away to a hidden location as the helicopter landed on site at the venue and boy was Kasey surprised! The pilot then flew Kasey around to find his bride. Brie, walked up the rolling Palouse hills to greet Kasey. It was incredibly awesome! Thank you Kiwi Helicopters for making it happen!

Brie sent me pics of the guys attire less than two weeks before the wedding and I encourage her a big NO on black ties and sent her ideas for bow ties for the gents! They rocked those bow ties! There was just no black in anything else in the design elements. In a rush, since we were on crunch time I sent Brie some options and together we figured it out and ordered them in time for the wedding! I say, they look might dapper! P.S. The Tie Bar has a ton of options and not bad prices! The Groomsmen wore "Opulent" style in champagne. Kasey wore the Sand Wash Solid in Brown.

Brie envisioned draping on the the tree and really wanted white, but it just wasn't feasible. As I shopped around for draping with the little amount of time we had, I landed on this gorgeous lavender and taupe/gray subtle floral print and it was EXACTLY what I wanted! It pulled in the bridesmaid dresses, the purples in the groomsmen shirts and the floral details and helped blend the gray and taupe details throughout the wedding design. AND it was in the clearance section and made getting the whole bolt of fabric feasible with the budget! SCORE! This is a snippet of the design board we presented to Brie and Kasey to help them envision the design elements. We focus on tangible, accessible items that will be part of their wedding decor.

RECEPTION

The Barn at Mader Farm, is an incredible venue. The historic barn is a dream to design with! We used lighter linen to brighten the space up and featured greenery chandeliers. Beautiful sheer drapes billowed down the sides of the entrance and were sashed with silk ribbon and greenery. Kara, with Just So. Event Floral worked some serious magic on the centerpieces, featuring artichokes, dahlias roses and greenery - some of the bride's favorite flowers.

Brie and Kasey own a Coffee business and we had to incorporate this personal element into their wedding. We featured this rustic old industrial cart (available in our rental items), added some greenery and Brie made these darling coffee bean to-go bags for their gift favors. Brie's bridesmaid did the water color lettering.

Ira + Lucy Vintage Boho Wedding, Southerland's Ranch, Eagle ID

Something that I've always focused so hard on, is the relationship I and my team have with our couples, including their parents, especially the Mother-of-the-Bride. We work very close, usually with Bride and Mom in the months leading up to the wedding. Sometimes that means late night conversations on the phone about concerns or stresses and how we can help them through those challenges. I'll never forget when Sydney reached out to me back in November. She found Ira + Lucy on WeddingWire and sent us an email inquiring about our services. It was a match made in heaven! When Sydney shared her vision I immediately wanted their wedding. Sydney and Bryce are both film students in Denver and I just adore their style and both are such quality people. Soon, Sydney's mom, Denise and I were shooting emails back and forth in prepping for the big day.

Sending Sydney and Bryce off in a sparkler exit to a dreamy vintage car, a surprise gift from the Groom's parents, was so special and a bit emotional for me. Dealing with 105 degree weather, and over 13 hours in the heat, Sydney hugging me before they ran to the car and telling me how happy she was, "Heidi I just love you! Thank you!" meant the world to me!

SyYou'd think after three years of doing Ira + Lucy I wouldn't get nerves or deal with anxiety, but I totally do! I can barely sleep the night before our clients' weddings because I'm so caught up in all the lists, logistics, management etc and I can't stop my head from those lists. I want the day perfect for my couples that have trusted me and my team. It's one thing to kick ass leading up to the wedding, but it's another come "go-time". It was an incredible day! I've never seen such a stunning wedding party! Wait till you see the pics! E + E Photography were wonderful to work with and I'm just dying to see the pics! So, for now here is one stunner of a sneak peek! Thank you Sydney and Bryce and the Thomas and Hoogland Families for inviting Ira + Lucy to be part of such an incredible moment! xx

Stay tuned for more pictures coming soon!

Ira + Lucy Black and White Bohemian Wedding

Black and White Bohemian Wedding BoardI can't get enough of this "Boho" vibe that we are seeing all over! Perhaps it's because we have a very special Ira + Lucy couple getting married in July, who rock this Bohemian Chic look like no other! I've been on a black and white, or just white design kick lately and when I stumbled on these black and white geometric poufs for our rental inventory I squealed with delight! I ADORE these modern boho seating options. Our poufs are not the "cheapy" ones out there that are super soft and collapse when sat on - I don't know about you, but the last thing I want is my bride and groom or any of their guests getting stuck in a pouf! Ours are perfect for seating at a dining table or lounge set up! Keep it chic with black, white, greenery, and pops of wood and bronze tones! You can't go wrong with a black and white bohemian wedding design! GORGEOUS! Be sure to reserve your Ira + Lucy Geometric Poufs for your wedding or special event! We require rentals be finalized 30 days prior to your event! Get crack'n!

DIY Wood Pallet Wedding Projects

DIY Wood Pallet Wedding Projects

A former thrifty DIY Bride myself and now a Vintage Rental business owner and wedding designer, DIY is something we do often! And ohhh the lessons we have learned! Today we're sharing some tips for working with wood pallets. Hopefully we'll help you from a "Pinterest Fail".

palletsign

TONS OF GREAT IDEAS of how to utilize recycled wood pallets are all over Pinterest and leading wedding blogs. You can check out some of our favorites! In the meantime, let's talk the reality of working with these puppies!

  1. Wood Pallets are hella heavy! Enlist the help of your friends or fiance when working with wood pallets. They are super heavy and large! Think about what your use for them is going to be. A large pallet backdrop looks awesome, but you are really going to have to think through how you will prevent it from toppling over, especially if you are adding floral or other weighted decor to it.
  2. Decide new vs old pallets. Is the end product going to look best with rustic upcycled wood pallets or would new be a better option. For us, we wanted not quite as rustic of a vibe old would offer, so we purchased new pallets and sanded the top of the boards down some for a smoother surface.
  3. Disassembling wood pallets takes some sweat! Get your crow bar out! But, BEWARE! Removing the boards can also cause them to split where the nail was in place. Take your time, but realize you may split them during the process. I personally liked working with brand new pallets from a local wood pallet supply company. Also if you want your project symmetrical, like our wood backdrop, make sure you pick the most similar pallets, otherwise, like us... you'll be forced to disassemble them and rebuild them to match.
  4. Staining wood pallets is a *^%#@ after the first attempt of staining wood pallets, I was ready to throw the project out! I was irritated, covered in stains and I was so sore from the crazy positions I had to put my body into to get to all those hard to reach places. So, here you go!

Insider Tip!

Do not stain with a brush! GET A SPRAY GUN! You'll blow (literally) through more stain this way, than doing it by hand, BUT, it'll take you less than 5 minutes vs 2 hours per pallet! Also, you need to cover the ground with more coverage than you see I did below... I killed some of my grass...

We LOVED this model we purchased from Lowes! The Wagner Opti Stain Plus for only $49.99! Keep in mind, it is for STAIN only! They have a different model if you are wanting to use paint. We used the Minwax Special Walnut from Home Depot for this project, which matches our custom bar.

Fall Wedding Inspiration is Brewing!

It's my favorite time of year! I love this time of year, when the days are still warm, but you can feel the change in the air. The evenings are cooler and come sooner and it sends me skipping with joy for my sweaters, scarves and fall boots! Fall bring me all your goodness and with it comes some delightful ideas for Fall Wedding and Special Event Styling! If you follow my pinterest board, it's getting some serious eye candy action right now! I stumbled on this lovely Autumn Wedding Inspired shoot from Southern Table Design and photographed by Becca Lea Photography. If I had to pick my two favorite details it would be the use of the serpentine table and the copper elements. We have an upcoming wedding using copper as one of the primary design details. I can't wait! Enjoy!Southern Table Design

Imagine how lovely our mismatched [button url="http://iraandlucy.com/gallery/category/1259/"]gold vintage chairs[/button] would be with this set up!
